Music Students Awarded, Recital Planned in April

Image of Musical NotesSix Akron Public Schools student composers have been awarded for their compositions in the Scholastic Composer Competition this year.

The Annual Scholastic Composers Competition is hosted by the Children's Concert Society; students submit their original compositions to be adjudicated by grade level. The six winners include Cole Johnson, a senior at Firestone CLC, and Jack Core, eighth grade at Miller South. Both were awarded first place for their compositions in last year's competition.

A recital featuring all first-place winners will be held on April 3, 2019, at 6 p.m. at The Portage Country Club.

  • 1st Place - Cole Johnson, Grade 12, Firestone CLC
  • 2nd Place - Kennae Jacoby, Grade 4, Miller South
  • 2nd Place - Emilia Neri, Grade 6, Miller South
  • 2nd Place - Jack Core, Grade 8, Miller South
  • 3rd Place - Andrea Fertig, Grade 8 Miller South
