Akron Public Schools officials helped Judith A. Resnik Community Learning Center (CLC) staff and students celebrate the establishment of an International Baccalaureate (IB) primary years program at the school Feb. 11.

The IB program at Resnik, approved by the board Jan. 28, joins others offered at Firestone, Litchfield and Case CLCs, according to APS officials. Resnik Principal Kristen Booth said the IB program’s goal “is for students to take action in the world to help improve society.”

Resnik’s celebrations included a tribute in song to Judith Resnik — a former student and astronaut who died in 1986 when the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded shortly after its launch, and for whom the school is named — as well as a ribbon-cutting ceremony and other activities. One of those included a parade of flags, shown below with students.

The school is now officially Resnik CLC, an IB World School, according to district officials.
