Art teacher Kara Cauffield said she tries to include the importance of being thankful and giving back throughout each class project. Students were asked to respond to the prompt "How do we honor our hometown heroes?" In preparation for the show, several speakers visited Schumacher to talk about their personal journey and how they now use their gifts to give back to the community. Students created original works in a variety of styles and even a service project in collaboration with Akron Children's Hospital. Ms. Cauffield said the show ended up being much larger than she previously envisioned thanks to the enthusiasm of her students.

The show will feature collaborative works by each grade level including a special installation honoring hometown hero Lebron James. Visitors will have the opportunity to interact with some of the student art including several basketball hoops and photo booths designed by the students. The show is open from 4-7:30 p.m. March 15 at the Akron Art Museum. Admission is free.
