Both personally and on behalf of GAR Foundation, I am overjoyed that David James is staying in Akron, continuing his strong, steady leadership, and helping all of us to write Akron’s next chapter. Over the past handful of years, David has worked tirelessly, often behind the scenes, to transform how Akron Public Schools will prepare kids for life and work in our changed world. The announcement that he will stay ensures that the wind is at our back as these plans are implemented and as we strive toward the vision he has brought into focus for us. It’s a great day for Akron!

I am just thrilled that David has decided to continue his leadership in Akron Public Schools. David and his senior leadership team are insightful and visionary. There are exciting times ahead for the school district, and having his steady leadership will ensure success.

While I’m confident David would have led the Columbus school district with distinction, I’m ecstatic to see another Akron leader choose to continue his service to this community. David is a phenomenal leader with a balanced, collaborative and effective approach to meeting the diverse needs of the Akron Public Schools district and its families. I look forward to continuing to partner with David and the board on initiatives such as the College & Career Academies of Akron and the "bold goal" of improving third-grade reading scores, to ensure we always put our young people first in Akron.

~ Dan Horrigan, mayor, city of Akron

Akron is a city on the rise, thanks in no small part to dedicated public servants like David. He is a role model, and we are very lucky that he will remain here to guide and collaborate with us as we work to improve and expand educational opportunities for every student in Akron.

~ Jim Mullen, CEO and president, United Way of Summit County

Akron Children’s is excited to continue to build on the great synergy we’ve created through our collaboration with Akron Public Schools for the creation of our Akron Children’s Hospital Academy of Health and Human Services at North High School.
