She is Morgan Lasher, selected from an original pool of 57 applicants who applied following the resignation of John Otterman January 22.

Lasher is a partner at Amp Strategy, an Akron-based communications and marketing firm.

"This has been a very difficult process because there were so many qualified candidates, said Board President Patrick Bravo. "But the board wanted to take a very thoughtful and deliberate approach to ensure that the person we selected was in the best position to help us move forward as a district."

Lasher has worked with the Monitor Group in Cambridge, Mass., and at an online and print publication covering business and culture in Northeast Ohio called Mimi Vanderhaven.

Lasher is active in her community as a board member with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Reserve. She is also vice president of the Akron Chapter of ATHENA International and has served on the expo committee of Akron Marathon.

Board President Patrick Bravo said Lasher brings experience currently not present on the board.

"As Akron shapes its unique story of growth, our community is having exciting conversations about entrepreneurship and city development and vibrant arts and culture," Lasher said. "And for lasting, long-term civic success, we must start with the success of our kids. We need a strong backbone of equitable public education, and I'm honored to be a part of that forward momentum with the APS community."

Morgan Lasher will be sworn in at a special meeting at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, at 70 N. Broadway St. downtown.
