Image of ScholarshipThe National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa Inc. Beta Iota Chapter of Akron, recently awarded $500 scholarships. The winners were Buchtel Community Learning Center graduates Kairyn Parker and Ja’Sean Smith and Barberton High School graduate Justin Persinger. The scholarship competition was open to area high school graduates who plan to major in education. The sorority also recognized several community members who have shown commitment to working with and developing area youth. Recipients were Jonathan Greer, founder and director of iCARE Mentoring; Brandon Scarborough, founder and director of Dreams Academy; and Akron Public Schools educator Mary Bell-Nolan.
