Saturday, February 2, Grindall says, his team competed in a qualifying match at Kent State University for the FIRST Tech Challenge (https://www.firstinspires.org/robotics/ftc). This is a comparable competition to VEX, in which STEM and Firestone compete.

The team faced some big odds for winning a berth for state-level competition, but they did finish in the middle of the pack -- 16 out of 28. Grindall tells us, "This is amazing considering my students completed a robot in half the time and with vastly fewer resources than many teams there. We also won the Judges Award for best rookie team at the competition!"
