North Students in SkillsUSA Competition

APS Students Excel in Columbus

Image of SkillsUSA Team​Eighteen​ Biomedical Science and ​five​ Allied Health students attended the ​SkillsUSA State Championships in Columbus​ last week.​

The Convention Center was packed with ​more than​ 4,500 competitors, representing more than 60 Ohio high schools. (More than 30,000 Ohio high school students are SkillsUSA members, the ​second​ largest in the nation.)

In the American Spirit contest, the team of DaVyan Caldwell, Susmita Rai and Sar Ela Be Htoo won ​the silver medal. ​They represented ​three​ different community service projects created by North students: Valor Home Jars of Inspiration, Recycled School Supplies, and the EpiPens and Anaphylaxis training.

Also, in Medical Math, Ro Zi Mar placed ​sixth​ in the state;and Chandra Gajmer placed ​sixth​ in the Health Occupations Professional Portfolio contest​.​

The Community Service team of Hsa Win, Alejandra Trevino and Amari Barnett placed ​eighth.

Finally, Alejandra Trevino gave a wonderful performance speaking at the 2018 TEDxAkron event last Saturday. Sixteen North ​s​tudents attended the event​.​

​Teacher Kelly Dine summed it all up, saying, "I'm so happy and proud of all of them!!​"
