Buchtel Students Have an Eye on Classroom Careers

Image of Buchtel Teaching ProfessionalsSixteen students from Buchtel CLC Teaching Professions program recently competed in the Educators Rising Conference at Ohio Dominican University. Four placed high enough to move on to the National Conference in June. This will take place at Disney in Orlando. The group was coached by Teaching Professions instructor Melissa Jacot.

More than 1,000 students from 50 schools in Ohio participated in 16 different competitions including Lesson Planning, Ethical Dilemma, Researching Disabilities, Children Literature and Public Speaking.

Buchtel students qualifying for nationals include:
  • Ashlyn Allen - 3rd Place: CTE Lesson Plan
  • Cordae Barnes - 4th Place: Public Speaking
  • JaSean Smith - 5th Place: Arts Lesson Plan
  • Sharon Tuck-Hayden - 3rd Place: Humanities Lesson Plan
Additional students placing in the Top 10 include:

  • Kyla Locke - Children’s Literature
  • Sharon Tuck Hayden - Research
  • Karen Delgado - Research
  • Shayla Collins - Research
  • Kairyn Parker - Research
  • Chyna Grier - CTE Lesson Plan
  • Marce Compton - Lesson Plan
Congratulations to all students who competed and represented Buchtel CLC and Akron Public Schools.
