This update is being sent to you in the Akron Board of Education’s effort to fulfill its promise to you of a fully transparent Superintendent Search process. Last night, March 25, we concluded our first-round interviews and deliberations. In a 7-0 vote, the board voted to move the following four candidates to the final round of interviews (in alphabetical order):

  • Christine Fowler-Mack (chief portfolio officer, Cleveland Metropolitan School District)
  • Felisha Gould (assistant superintendent, Cleveland Heights-University Heights Schools)
  • Rebecca Kaye (chief information & accountability officer, Oklahoma City Public Schools)
  • Sandy Womack (area superintendent, Columbus City Schools)
The board also agreed to host the interviews on April 12, 13 and 14. Below is the interview structure:
  • Interview with the board
  • Open public presentation and forum (All Community members, families, partners and elected officials are invited to join.)
  • Open presentation and forum for APS Staff (All district staff are invited to join.)
  • Tour of schools
  • Conversation with students at one of the schools the candidate visits
We request everyone who is interested to participate in open presentations and forums by attending in person or viewing virtually. The board will make the presentations and forums available in both, an in-person format with a limited number of seats and a virtual format to give the maximum opportunity for all to participate.

Additionally, there will be a link made available prior to the interview dates for community members, partners, families and staff to submit questions they would like asked of the candidates. Due to time constraints, these sessions will be moderated by our search consultant, Steve Horton, from the questions submitted in advance.

Lastly, the board values your feedback. We considered all of the feedback received from the surveys and focus groups prior to the first round. We will do the same with this final round and decision. Therefore, we ask that all viewers of the presentation and forums complete the post-forum feedback to share their thoughts on the strengths and weaknesses of each candidate.

Should you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact any board member.

Thank you!
