Yesterday, the board met to review the 27 candidates who applied for the Superintendent position. There were some very strong candidates in the pool. After deliberative and thoughtful discussion, the Board agreed to move forward with the following eight candidates for our first-round interviews:

  • Shaun Black, Assistant Superintendent of Schools, Detroit Public Schools Community District
  • Vilicia Cade, Chief Academic Officer, Sandusky City Schools
  • Christine Fowler-Mack, Chief Portfolio Officer, Cleveland Municipal School District
  • Felisha Gould, Assistant Superintendent, Cleveland Heights-University Heights
  • Rebecca Kaye, Chief of Information and Accountability, Oklahoma City Public Schools
  • Ryan Pendleton, Treasurer/CFO, Akron Public Schools
  • Markay Winston, Assistant Superintendent, Monroe County Community School Corporation
  • Sandy Womack, Area Superintendent, Columbus City Schools
Our first-round interviews will be held at 5 p.m. on March 23 and 25. After these interviews, the board will decide on a smaller subset of the candidates for final interviews.

The finalists will be asked to travel to Akron, if they aren’t local, to meet with the board and provide an open presentation and discussion for APS staff, community partners and an open community session.

We encourage you to participate in these open sessions and provide the board with your feedback on each candidate.

As we get closer to the finalist stage, I will provide another update with more pertinent information for you.

As always, contact any board member if you have any questions.

Thank you!
