LeBron James’ family members and students at the I Promise School, which James’ foundation started with Akron Public Schools in 2018, recorded video messages to present him with his 2020 NBA Championship ring.

James, an Akron native, was named the NBA Finals Most Valuable Player for the fourth time of his career for his performance with the Los Angeles Lakers as they defeated the Miami Heat in October.

James was presented with his championship ring Tuesday evening in Los Angeles with a video message that began by showing students who attend the I Promise School, an Akron public school for about 450 of the city’s most at-risk third- through sixth-graders who receive year-round social services and resources from the LeBron James Family Foundation.

“Hi, I’m Candice, I go to the I Promise School,” a student said from her front porch.

“And I go to the I Promise School,” said a student seated in an arts and crafts room at the I Promise Village, a renovated apartment building near the school that the LeBron James Family Foundation opened this summer to provide rent-free traditional housing for I Promise students and families experiencing homelessness, domestic violence or other unforeseen circumstances.

The video showed students congratulating James, encouraging him to keep up the good work and exclaiming the motto of his foundation, “We are family.”

Then, James’ mother, Gloria, appeared alongside two of his uncles, and in another clip, James’ three children congratulated him, after which, James claimed his championship ring.

The moment was celebrated on social media with Twitter users saying it was “everything” and “absolutely crushed me.”

The championship ring includes .52 carats of yellow diamonds, representing the Lakers’ 52 regular-season wins. Etched into each ring is the word “unity,” which the Lakers and entire NBA took on as part of their social justice efforts this year. The Lakers’ playoff slogan, “Leave a Legacy,” in James’ handwriting is emblazoned in gold on each ring. Watch the video here >>.
