Image of Chinese New Year videoThe National Inventors Hall of Fame® Middle School Center for Science, Technology, Mathematics and Engineering (STEM) celebrated the 2020 Chinese New Year (the year of the rat) on Friday, February 7, with a student-led program featuring interactive performances and displays of Chinese culture. Student activities included a Chinese lion and dragon dance; renditions of Happy New Year, Where are My Friends, a common folk song, and the Sincere Hero in Chinese; a rap about the Chinese Zodiac; dance routines such as the Umbrella, Long Ribbon, Modern and Chinese Public Square Dancing routines; karate and Chinese boxing demonstrations by Ms. Long; and even a Kung Fu Demonstration by the seventh-graders. Afterward, a game of trivia concerning aspects of Chinese culture was played with the audience. In China, the new year celebration lasts 15 days.
