A college immersion summer program for 10th-graders at Firestone High School and a Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring program are among the recipients of education and early learning programs grants totaling $518,250 announced Friday by the Akron Community Foundation.

The awards are part of $3.59 million in quarterly community grants distributed by the foundation.

The Kent State University Foundation was awarded $18,500 to support the residential-based college experience for Firestone students. Participants will spend 120 hours on campus, with six hours of daily instruction and engagement within academic colleges. Read more and learn about the other awardees here >>.
