Even though Whitfield has worked in a variety of capacities for APS, it is her guidance and direction of high school seniors who are school representatives to the board that prompted the board to express its appreciation.

"The idea that we came up with and board member Lisa Mansfield shepherded through the approval process," said previous Board President Patrick Bravo, "would have probably lingered in limbo had it not been for Dreama's work to organize it and see it through."

The idea that was brought forth by Bravo a year ago was to have each APS high school select a student to represent it on the Akron School Board. Last school year, student board representatives were extremely active, according to Rev. Dr. Curtis T. Walker, Sr, board president. "They helped not only at board meetings but were very good about coming to and participating in our committee meetings."

Board member and past President Lisa Mansfield simply said Whitfield was an instant catalyst. "Because of Dreama, the program was ON."

The student board representatives for this coming school year are being organized now to begin work soon with the Akron School Board.
