What makes the Helen E. Arnold CLC special?
- The brand-new Helen E. Arnold CLC shares the site with
the Akron Urban League.
- The CLC and the community share a large gymnasium,
an art and music room, media center and a cafetorium.
- The Urban League offers day-care services along with
various classes including after-school enrichment.
Students will be provided field trips, homework
assistance, tutoring and physical fitness activities.
- The CLC is an impressive 62,572 square-foot,
two-story building, which is air conditioned, holds 452
students, has enhanced security, and offers a video
projector and computers in each class.
- Kindergartners have a separate playground access,
and an elevator is available for the disabled.
- The high-school sized gymnasium is 8,000 sq. ft.
with a movable divider and a traditional wooden floor.
History
- Groundbreaking on August 23, 2005
- Opened to students on August 29, 2007
- Dedicated on October 19, 2007
- The Helen E. Arnold Community Learning Center was named
for Helen E. Arnold, a member of the Akron Board of
Education for 24 years. The Helen E. Arnold CLC is a
brand-new school constructed as part of the Imagine
Akron Community Learning Centers project. It shares the
site with the Akron Urban League, but the facilities
function independent of one another.
