About Resnik CLC

  • The Judith A. Resnik CLC has 385 students and is rated Effective.
  • Teachers average 23 years of experience; 84% hold a master's degree or higher.
  • Three teachers were selected as the district's Teachers of the Year in 1996, 1999 and 2006.
  • The Judith A. Resnik Community Learning Center opened on December 18, 2006.

Academics

  • The school is focused on a theme that ties everything together; SPACE stands for "Students Participating in Academics through Creative Exploration."
  • Resnik CLC's staff is dedicated to helping students achieve their fullest potential; various instructional strategies such as differentiation of instruction are implemented in classrooms to meet the educational needs of every student.
  • The 100 Book Challenge aids every classroom because students read at their "just-right" level; that motivates and instills a love of reading in students.
  • Continuous staff development is provided for staff members so that current teaching practices are implemented to meet the needs of all students.
  • Planners and newsletters aid school-home communication.

Events/Activities

  • Resnik CLC celebrates successes with a parent/student luncheon every grading period to honor students of outstanding character.

Partnerships/Grants/Awards

  • An active PTA contributes to the success of Resnik CLC students.
  • The school is the recipient of numerous grants such as the Educator Initiative Grant.
  • Resnik CLC benefits from strong community partnerships with Virtual Hold Technology (for AkronReads), The University of Akron, Target and many more.
  • The school received a state award for reading; it was recognized as a state "School of Promise," distinguished in the area of reading, for the 2005-06 school year.
  • Resources from Exxon Mobile, NASA and COSI strengthen reading, writing, math and science skills.
