Head out to Akron’s First Night on New Year’s Eve and vote for East at Martha Avenue’s 15 Machine Rube Goldberg Project. The large-scale STEM project, held on Main Street in front of Lock 3, calls for students from 15 middle schools in Summit County to put STEM concepts into action by creating a Rube Goldberg machine* to ignite the midnight fireworks.
East at Martha Avenue is in direct competition with the other schools for prizes and would appreciate everyone’s vote at First Night!

*A Rube Goldberg machine is a deliberately over-engineered machine that performs a very simple task in a complex fashion, usually including a chain reaction. The board game Mousetrap is an example of a Rube Goldberg machine.
