APS Superintendent David W. James was recently selected to join a working conference call with U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) on education in Ohio schools. Mr. James provided input and advice to Brown in a call held on Tuesday with school principals and superintendents throughout Ohio. The working conference call explored strategies to help America "out-educate" the rest of the world.
"We're working hard to transform education and provide more opportunity to the students of Akron," said Superintendent James. "This process is the first of many steps we must take to ensure our students graduate with the skills necessary to succeed in the 21st century."
Brown, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, is a fierce advocate of higher education access and supports Ohio small businesses that create middle class jobs throughout our state.
"From Akron to Oakwood, schools in Ohio are an important part of our state's economy and growth," Brown said. "This working conference call was conducted to ensure that all of Ohio's students have the educational, technological and economic resources needed to thrive in the future."
Brown recently delivered an address on the Senate floor during National Teachers Appreciation Week to express gratitude to teachers across Ohio and the United States.
