Cargill Inc. awarded a $1,000 college scholarship to Lauren Barnes of Firestone. As part of the Cargill Community Scholarship Program, Firestone received $200 in Barnes' honor to support the school's library.
The following career education students received $1,500 renewable W.B. Snow Scholarships: Elizabeth Aronhalt, Alex Darkow, Tazo Harper, Felton Shropshire, Tylan Stone, Usaaman Taugir and Martezz Williams.
The following career education students were selected as Students of the Year and earned a $200 Rotary scholarship: Buchtel – KyEsha Brown (pre-nursing); Ellet – Ashley Goodwin (animal management), Courtney Kelley (early childhood education), Katie Spinks (information technology) and Peter Strawman (construction technology); Kenmore – Christopher Commings (marketing); and North – Diem Nguyen (marketing) and Jordan Spinks (administrative office technology).

Akron Early College High School junior Olin Clay earned scholarship recognition from the National Merit Scholarship program based on his fall 2009 PSAT test results. His name will be entered into semi-finalist competition.
North heating, ventilating and air conditioning students earned awards in the state HVAC competition: fourth place – Jake Miller ($2,000 scholarship); and sixth place – Cherelle Weaver ($1,000 scholarship).
