Functions of the Office of General Counsel

The General Counsel serves as the primary legal advisor to the Board and administrative staff.

This office interprets various items in legislation and provides counsel to the Board, the Superintendent and staff in matters of a legal or technical nature relating to the interpretation of statutes, court decisions, administrative rulings and contracts; and prepares and renders legal opinions upon request to the Superintendent and the Board.

This office represents the District in administrative investigations and hearings, provides a full range of litigation, labor law, education law, civil rights law, contracting, and other legal services on behalf of the school district and supervises the revisions of rules and regulations promulgated by the Board or the Superintendent.

The General Counsel coordinates the contracting and management of outside legal counsel.
